EPISODE 2 - THE WARDEN'S MARK
It's the final episode to our story, "Jimmy Jack and the Smartman." The smartmen are speaking to the coming aliens through their giant radio, and Jimmy Jack doesn't want to be kept out of the conversation. Jimmy Jack hatches an elaborate plan to let the aliens hear his voice, and with his friends, turns the mountainside into the scene of a party no intelligence amid the stars is soon to forget.
The Flatland Fiction podcast features an original, opening score composed by Bill Wason of St. Louis, Missouri. While narration begins on several short stories, those of us at Flatland Fiction welcome you to give a listen to the score's melody as it floats over the open landscape that inspires so many of the works found on our website. The voice of prison inmate Wilson Greene tells the story of "The Warden's Mark." Listen as Wilson describes the scratching noises that escape from the confining cell walls. Meet Luke Wilson, another diabolical bone-shaker from the wicked Turner clan. Follow the tattooed curves and lines Luke traces along Wilson' arms, and run with Wilson as those markings pulsate and glow when the pair make their incredible escape, and hold your breath when the terrible warden arrives to claim the soul marked for his possession.
Episode 9 of the podcast concludes our story, "The Butcher of Old Town." This episode also includes a bonus short story at the end titled "Given to Glass," a work of flash fiction featuring wizards, fay regents and lovely daughters. Tune in to this episode and enjoy two stories of dark fantasy.

Jimmy Jack and his friends work to construct the smart man's mysterious project, and they share their conjectures regarding why the smartman employs them in creating a giant bowl of concrete. Part 3 of Jimmy Jack and the Smartman features chapters 5,6, and 7 of our story. Jimmy Jack and his friends near completion of the smart man's enormous radio, and the smartman makes contact with an alien intelligence in the stars. Jimmy Jack's suspicions of the smartman grow stronger as the smartman fails to keep the promise he made to Jimmy Jack's community.
Each week, Jimmy Jack visits the bubble that protects Yogi. Yogi is the community smartman, and he is obliged to honestly answer Jimmy Jack's questions. Yet when Yogi discovers an intelligence amid the stars, the natural order between a community and its smartman becomes jeopardized, and Jimmy Jack and Yogi must reevaluate their friendship before the first saucer lands.
