Three bullies jump brothers Brad and Brett on the other side of the demolition derby's corrugated wall, where the roar of engines masks the screams and curses brothers shout as they vainly defend their precious, swirling marbles against their overpowering tormentors. The loss of his swirling marble hits Brett hard. Though his older brother Brad reminds him that the vendor's rules state that no marble might be replaced after having been lost, Brett vows to return to the game of marblefish and see if his circumstances might not deserve another marble and a second chance to toss that bauble into the air and see if a splash might be enough to summon the magic Brad no longer believes to be present in the summer, county fair.
